Silent Prayer

Almighty God, ruler of all things seen and unseen, through your Son, Jesus Christ

and the Holy Spirit, you show your power and mercy. You cast out evil, tear down walls of division, comfort and challenge your people, and show signs of your kin-dom coming into the world. Grant that we may lift up the discouraged, strengthen the doubting, and join with all who seek to thank you for your goodness. Glory be to you, O God, who, with the Holy Spirit and the Holy Son, together is worshiped and praised; One God forever. Amen

Visit us with your salvation, enter every trembling heart.

One: There is no longer Jew or Greek,

All: there is no longer slave or free,

*Hymn Jesus Loves Me R. #103

Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong; they are weak, but he is strong.

Refrain: Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! This I know, as he loved so long ago, taking children on his knee, saying, “Let them come to me.”

Refrain:

Jesus loves me! still today, walking with me on my way, Wanting as a friend to give light and love to all who live.

Refrain:

*Invocation (spoken in unison)

As you spoke to the Legions, O God, speak now to the forces that surround us.

By your Spirit, let your word illumine the darkness, and your light break through our delusions, that we may see your truth. Amen

Children’s Message

New Testament Readings (Christian Scriptures) Galatians 3:23-29

Luke 15:11-32

Special Music Meditation on “Land of Rest” American Folk Melody/Giamanco

Message “From a Distance” Pastor Jeff Jeude

*Hymn It Was God Who Ran to Greet Him R. #71

It was God who ran to greet him as he stumbled home in shame,

Then embraced him, clothed and fed him, gave him back his family name.

It was God who swept the kitchen and retrieved that precious coin;

God in woman called her neighbors, “Come, and in my gladness join.”

It was God who, as a shepherd, left the ninety-nine asleep

And then searched in cold and darkness till he found that missing sheep.

It is God who runs to meet us, conscious of our every need;

Then, as we in turn help others, God rejoices in each deed!

Call to Confession

Trusting in the mercy of God, let us confess our sin to God and to one another.

Prayer of Confession

Merciful and gracious God, we walk in a way that is not good.We follow our own

devices. We ignore your image in ourselves and in our neighbors.Do not turn away

from us, O God, but hear our cry for blessing.Lead us out of the tombs we inhabit.

Guide us into your light so that we may walk in your way. Amen

Declaration of Forgiveness

You belong to Christ and are heirs of the promise of freedom. In full assurance of justification

by grace through faith, by the authority of God’s beloved Son, I declare to you the absolute

forgiveness of all your sins. In the name of the blessed Trinity, One God. Amen

Prayers of the People – Sharing Joys & Concerns

Lead Me Lord

Lead me Lord, lead me in thy righteousness, make thy way plain before my face.

For it is thou Lord, thou Lord, only, that makest me dwell in safety.

Offering

Welcoming our Tithes and Offerings – God gives us more than enough for our journey of

faith. Let us present our tithes and offerings so that others may know their blessings and give

thanks to God.

Offertory Gondola Song Mendelssohn

*The Doxology

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

Praise God, all creatures here below;

Praise God for all that love has done;

Creator, Christ, and Spirit, One. Amen

*Prayer of Dedication (spoken in unison)

Triune God, through Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, you bring hope to the despairing, healing to the sick, and release from bondage to all who are oppressed by sin and evil. Direct our gifts to fulfill your purpose as we await the time when all creation is one in your love, by the grace of Jesus Christ and the community of the Holy Spirit. Amen

*Hymn Love Divine, All Loves Excelling (vs. 2-4) B. #43

Breathe, O breathe your loving Spirit into every troubled breast; Let us all in you inherit, let us find your promised rest; Take away our love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be. End of faith, as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty.

Come, almighty to deliver, let us all your life receive; Suddenly return, and never, never-more your temples leave. You we would be always blessing, love you as your angles love. Pray and praise for your unfailing, wounded arms out-stretched above.

Finish, then, your new creation; pure and spotless may we prove; Let us see your great salvation perfectly restored in you; Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place, Crowned as saints, we ever shall be lost in wonder, love, and praise.

*Blessing

The Lord bless you and keep you.

The Lord’s face shine on you with grace and mercy.

The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace.

*Sung Benediction Go With Us, Lord R. #336

That in your Spirit strong and true our lives may be our gift to you.
